Zybreun
"It's Zybre-AWN." OK, Sassy girl alert, I thought. The past 27 weeks I have seen past the sassy girl and gotten to know a very smart, compassionate, and driven young woman. Zybreun is going to Jackson State University for her undergraduate degree and New York University for her Juris Doctorate. She will then practice criminal law. She is currently taking a law class and is a member of the Mock Trial team as a sophomore. A lot of students will say what they want to do, but never show any actual planning to achieve these goals. Zybreun is the kind of person who has plans to plan for her goals. When I work with Zybreun, I know she studied the material and could do just fine without much guidance. It is my job as an educator to simply guide her and ask her questions that extend her level of thinking.
Altoriyon
"Aaaaay Miiissss Baaaamaaa", he says in a lazy drawl. Altoriyon is a Meridian, MS boy born and raised. Altoriyon is a little behind as far as reading and comprehension; however, he is very street smart and makes connections quickly. I can tell that Altoriyon was probably told to shut or be quiet as a child. I bet he asked a lot of questions, but was simply told to stop talking. Because of this, Altoriyon can be a little shy about taking a guess for fear of getting the wrong answer. With Altoriyon it is my job as an educator to be kind and patient. To let him know it is okay to be wrong, for with no practice there is no progress.
